After Supercell, now it’s Metacore’s turn to abandon Everdale, a farming simulation game that was once loved by many fans. This decision marks a difficult, but inevitable, journey in finding sustainability for the game in the fierce gaming market.
From Hope to Closing
Metacore has officially confirmed that it will stop publishing Everdale after much consideration. This game, once considered a symbol of peace and creativity from Supercell, now has to close its journey once again after being revived. Metacore announced this decision through a post on LinkedIn, but the specific time the game will be removed from the system has not been determined.
The Reason Behind the Decision
According to Metacore, despite many efforts to improve and expand the world of Everdale, the game still failed to meet expectations in terms of market value. Despite making many changes to better suit the needs of players, the game still could not become a “sustainable” product in the long term. This was a difficult but necessary decision to ensure the right direction for the company.
Mika Tammenkoski, CEO of Metacore, shared: “Since acquiring Everdale from Supercell in early 2023, we have been constantly trying to better understand the market and expand the potential of the game. However, despite our best efforts, we have not found a way to turn it into a game that can last with the player community.”
Failed Efforts and an Uncertain Future
Since taking over Everdale, Metacore has conducted a lot of market research and talked to the community to find ways to improve the product. They have tried many different strategies, from upgrading the gameplay to improving player interaction, in search of the survival of the game. But in the end, those efforts did not bear fruit.
This failure also raises a big question about the future of conventional farming simulation games: Can they survive and be profitable in an increasingly harsh gaming market?
Everdale’s Short Journey
Everdale was launched by Supercell in August 2021. Previously, it was known as Valleys & Villages in late 2020. However, by October 2022, Supercell announced that the game was shutting down due to failing to meet expectations. Players’ hopes were rekindled when Metacore decided to take over and revive Everdale in 2023. But now, the game has once again ended its journey.
The Community Still Believes
With the latest decision, Metacore will hand over the intellectual property rights of Everdale to Supercell, and the fate of the game is once again uncertain. However, the community still holds out hope that one day, they can return to their peaceful valley, where simple joys and a leisurely life are re-enacted.
No matter what Supercell does with Everdale in the future, the fan community will always hold on to the love for this game, a game that brought them the moments of relaxation and peace they once experienced.
